1. Number of Hours

The longer you need your DJ to perform, the more it will cost, obviously. Most DJs charge by the hour, so be sure to discuss how long you’ll need them upfront. The good news is that most wedding DJs may negotiate their rates for longer bookings.

2. Size of the Wedding

An extravagant wedding will always cost more than a more intimate gathering. If you have a large guest list, your DJ needs to bring extra speakers & equipment to accommodate everyone & ensure that your music can be heard all the way down the back of the reception. You want everybody to dance the night away, so it’s worth the extra cost to make sure everyone can hear the music!

3. Location

The average Wedding DJ prices may be higher if your wedding is in a rural area or far from the city. Petrol is not cheap, and your DJ will need to factor in travel time and costs when quoting you an average price. Accommodation will also be required if our artists are driving a distance of greater than 1.5hrs and the finish time is after 11pm. For safety reasons we prefer our performers not to be driving long distances late at night. You’re welcome to book the accommodation, or provide a room for your performer if you want to avoid this cost.

4. Services Offered

Some DJs play music, but the best ones do so much more! They act as MCs, keeping the night running smoothly and making announcements as needed. They can also provide additional skills like saxophone, singing, guitar or percussion to make your wedding even more unforgettable. Generally the additional skills of our Hybrid DJs do cost more than the regular price of Wedding DJs

5. Experience

As with anything, you get what you pay for. Novice Wedding DJs may on average cost less and be cheaper, but they also may not have the experience or extensive music library that you’re looking for. It’s worth spending a little extra to make sure you get the top-quality professional who will make your night extra special.

6. Hot Dates

This is not the hot date you’re thinking of (probably not while planning a wedding! haha), but rather, the dates that are in high demand during peak Wedding Season. If you’re getting married on a Saturday night during peak wedding season (October – April), you can expect to pay more for your DJ. Ultra-premium dates can push the wedding DJ cost up higher as well. These include: Labour Day, Long Weekends, New Years Eve, Other Public Holidays. You’re not the only couple thinking that it’s a good idea to make a 3 day weekend of your wedding with all your loved ones!! Get in early, and expect to pay a bit more for your entertainment on these peak hot dates.

7. Demand

The more in demand your wedding DJ is, and the less available they are, the higher their average price will be. While this isn’t supposed to be an economics lecture, this is simple supply & demand. These top premium performers are often booked out 12 – 24 months in advance on the peak wedding dates (as mentioned above). And there’s a reason for this. THEY ARE GOOD! People want to book them, because they know what they’re doing, they’re going to ensure that you have the best night of your life, and they are priced accordingly.

Remember… you get what you pay for. Don’t come in with a Champagne Taste on a beer budget.
